BEGINNERS WELCOME
AZ On The Rocks is a huge, fully air conditioned rock climbing facility that is focused on customer service. The facility offers approximately 14, 000 square feet of climbing terrain, exercise and fitness equipment, and the best yoga studio in town. No experience is necessary. AZ On The Rocks rents all gear and provides basic instruction to all first-time visitors.
Every participant must complete and sign a waiver form prior to climbing. For individuals under 18, the form must be completed and signed by the person's parent prior to climbing. NO EXCEPTIONS.
ORIENTATION
Any climber new to our gym, whether a first-timer or experienced climber, must complete our orientation. This includes a 10 minute video and a hands-on check out with our staff.
These orientations are given continuously throughout the day until 7:30p/5:30p. The last orientation video will be shown at 7:30p Monday through Friday, and at 5:30p on Saturday and Sunday. No advanced reservations needed for groups smaller than 10 people.
NEVER BEEN TO AZ ON THE ROCKS BEFORE? Here is some helpful information that will ensure you are prepared for a great experience.
The question we are most commonly asked is, "Who can climb?"
The answer is simple-YOU. Period. End of story.
No matter your age, your size, or your excuse-YOU CAN DO IT. We are an Equal Opportunity facility. We have seen as young as 18 months all the way up to 80 years on the wall.
We do not allow the word "can't" in our facility when referring to your ability to climb-particularly if you haven't tried. Fear is learned, so our friendly staff is here to help you unlearn it and stop spreading it.
AGE RESTRICTIONS
- Anyone under the age of 18 must have a waiver signed and completed by their own parent. No exceptions.
- Nobody under the age of 15 is allowed to belay (hold the ropes) unless they have gone through our Youth Belay Certification.
- Nobody under the age of 15 is allowed in the facility without adult supervision.
WHAT TO WEAR
- AZ On The Rocks enforces the following policy: During AZR open public hours, anyone in the facility must be wearing a shirt (AZR defines a shirt as a long/short sleeve or sleeveless garment-such as a tank top-covering the torso. The shirt must cover the belly button, i.e. no half shirts or sports bras). The only exception to this policy is during 'Members Only Hours' (Tue/Thur 7:00-10:00p) when males can climb shirtless and females can climb in a sports bra if they choose. *Please note that this policy does not apply to clients who are training with Enerjoy Fitness or taking class with Zenergy Yoga while they are upstairs in the mezzanine.*
- Any comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely (jeans are not recommended) will do just fine. We do not recommend short shorts (such as cheer shorts) as they are not long enough to keep the harness from rubbing on the legs.
- We do not require socks with our rental shoes, but feel free to bring/wear them if you prefer.
WHAT TO EXPECT
- Everyone is required to go through our orientation process on their first visit to our facility, regardless of climbing experience. This includes a 10 minute orientation video, as well as a hands-on checkout with our staff.
- We do not recommend planning on less than 1-2 hours for your first visit. It may take 20-45 minutes to get through the orientation process and you want to have plenty of time to climb.
- AZR staff does not belay (hold the ropes). We recommend that you provide 1 belayer for every 2-3 climbers. We teach you how to belay at no charge. If desired, you may hire AZR to staff to belay-this must be done in advance!
- AZR provides all of the necessary gear to get you climbing (harness, shoes, carabiner, etc.).
